Aziz Ahmed served as Bangladesh Army chief from 25 June 2018 to 24 June 2021, after serving as BGB director general from 2012 to 2016 and as quartermaster general and a GOC. The US State Department publicly designated him for significant corruption in May 2024. Bangladeshi reports later said the ACC opened an inquiry into alleged illegal wealth, money laundering, and procurement-related irregularities involving Aziz and brothers Haris and Tofail Ahmed. A January 2026 BSS report said an ACC investigation was ongoing and that a court imposed a travel ban on his brother Anis in that related inquiry. Separately, BSS and The Daily Star reported that Aziz was named in the ICT proceeding concerning alleged crimes against humanity linked to the 2013 Shapla Chattar operation; The Daily Star later reported that prosecutors sought NCB assistance for an Interpol Red Notice request.
