What happened
The Daily Star and UNB reported that police firing killed 24 people on January 24, 1988, as a procession travelled to an Awami League rally at Chattogram's Laldighi Maidan. The reports state that a 1992 case named 46 people, including then police commissioner Kazi Raqibul Huda. In 2020, a Chattogram court sentenced five former police officers to death: Prodip Barua, Mustafizur Rahman, Shah Md Abdullah, Momtaj Uddin, and JC Mandal. These are recorded as trial-court convictions; this record does not assert a later appeal outcome or execution.
